Healthcare is one of the industries in which Berlin occupies a prominent position both in Germany and worldwide. Digital health solutions are playing an increasingly important role in both, the provision of care services, and as an economic factor for the city.
The upcoming trends such as personalized medicine, genomics or population health management can only be implemented on the basis of digital platforms and solutions. In this context, the involvement of patients through Health Apps constitutes an important component.
Against this background, the Berlin Senate for Economics, Energy and Enterprises (SenWEB) desired to create and adopt a catalog of measures, together with the different healthcare stakeholders.
The objective was to significantly improve the conditions and frameworks for digital health firms and their solutions to prosper in the city.
Berlin wishes to establish itself as a leading European and worldwide hub for the generation and implementation of digital health solutions and services.
What we did:
Through Berlin Partner – a public private economic development agency – R2G was engaged to conceptualize and moderate a staged consultation process including different healthcare stakeholders to arrive at a catalog of measures which would then be presented to the public:
Jointly with Berlin Partner, we produced an “Impulse Paper – Digital Health City Berlin” containing the agreed areas of action to propel Berlin to become a leading digital health hub. The paper also looks at the current digital health environment, identifies opportunities and hurdles and names existing state-of-the art projects.
It has been presented to the public by Senator Ramona Pop during the Senate’s Digital Health Summit (Digitalgipfel Gesundheit) in Berlin on November 21, 2018.
