R2G has launched its global annual survey, examining how established healthcare organizations collaborate with digital health startups to foster innovation. The survey explores the factors that contribute to successful partnerships. It focuses on the critical success factors and the breaking points that can make or break these collaborations.
As the digital health sector continues to evolve and become more integrated with the broader healthcare ecosystem, partnerships between startups and corporations have taken on increased importance, yet they have also become more complex. These collaborations have allowed corporations to adopt cutting-edge technologies, improving healthcare access and affordability, while providing startups with the resources and support needed to grow. Corporations have pursued various strategies to attract the right partners, including investment funds, dedicated partnering units, hackathons, and accelerators. Despite the time, effort, and resources both parties invest to foster digital health innovation, most partnerships still fail.
In the 2023 survey, partnerships were the most commonly preferred approach for managing digital health activities among healthcare corporations (55%), but only 13% of these collaborations were considered successful. This year’s survey will evaluate whether these figures have changed and provide a pulse check on the factors influencing successful partnerships today and the challenges leading to their breakdown.
The new annual global “Startup-Corporate Partnerships in Digital Health 2024” survey seeks input from decision-makers at both startups and established healthcare organizations, such as hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, health insurers, and medtech firms, to better understand how they manage their digital health initiatives, why challenges arise, and what can be done to improve partnership outcomes. The insights will provide a comprehensive view of current practices and highlight opportunities for improving collaboration in the future.
